FAQ's
choosing your essence
Many of the flower essences available through Scents of Balance are not available from other sources. All plants, flowers and trees were organically grown either in my yard or in Texas by my friend and webmaster, Linda. The greatest of care was taken to choose the time for creating the essences; always asking for permission of the flower before gathering. We always make a prayerful request to the nature spirits that the healing properties of the flowers be treated by the sunlight and released into the water.

Flower essences work on a vibrational level to encourage balance. They are not medicines. Take a few drops several times a day. You can put them under your tongue, rub them on your skin, put them in bath water, or mist them into the air. You can take them more often if you want.  Essences can effect change slowly or quickly, but the change will be subtle. All flower essences are dosage strength in 15 ml cobalt blue glass bottles with glass dropper cap.

1st Stage for Healing the Soul: Release and Relaxation
Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia): For hysteria, panic, over-excitement, over-stimulation and insomnia as a result of being keyed up. This essence establishes emotional balance, calming, soothing and centering one in the physical body. It also balances the crown chakra with the heart chakra and facilitates contact with the Higher Self and the spiritual realms.
Peony: Balances the Heart chakra. Suppressed energy around the heart center inhibits one's ability to open to love or to feel loved. Peony heals and expands the heart. Used for dissolving creative blocks and opening the heart and the spirit of love. Use for warmth, empathy, and feeling.
2nd Stage for Healing the Soul: Realization and Recognition
Texas Bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis): Results are similar to the northern species of lupine; i.e., helps you to stay calm, centered and focused. Simplifies issues and helps give a general view of what goes on around you. Provides a sense of unity with your surroundings. Lupine promotes comfort with group settings, augments gentleness and kindness with yourself and others.
Linden (Tilea europaea): Linden’s purpose is to heal the “feminine”. Linden speaks to that part of us that has been hiding under the cloak of powerlessness, guilt and shame. It assists us in pulling back the petals to expose our individual essence, creating a new awareness of self-fulfillment. Linden gently nudges us to give ourselves permission to face challenge with compassion and power, using our gift of intuition to guide us into new ways of living; thus increasing our ability to experience the “sweetness” of life.
Mimosa (Albizia julibrissin): For delivering your truth with clarity and power. Increases intuitive awareness, precise thinking, and sensitivity.

Petunia (Petunia x hybrida): For creative visualization and inspiration, for the dream weavers. This essence allows the realization that if you can dream it, you can have it. It brings a sense of wonder, puts dreams within reach, imparts the ability to dream the future, ponder the possibilities of optimal futures, bringing an inner knowing that there are no limits and that everything is possible in a self-generated reality.

3rd Stage for Healing the Soul: Reaction, Resistance and Reconciliation
Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides white): For renewing passion and interest in relationships. Helps draw together those who are moving away from one another, busy in their own world (career, life, etc.). This essence helps to turn the individual's head to reconnect to see what their partner is doing and feeling and to discover what is needed to bring them back together.
Lilac (Oxalis incarnata): Assists us in recapturing the innocence and sweetness of our youth, true to our personal vision with safe boundaries securely in place; a time when there were no limitations with only the promise of a bright glorious future. Lilac’s essence is not captured or given easily. Only when one is open & ready to receive her sweet gifts will they be given.
Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus): helps to bring balance to the emotional response of an individual by allowing a gradual release of the pressure and tension that can build up inside people who find it difficult to express their emotions. Also brings the gift of Clarity through intuition and creativity. Take time to listen to the silence and the path becomes clear.
Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata): Attunement to Christ Consciousness. Spiritual balance, tension release. Opens heart and throat chakras; eases tensions in the dream state. Works on the spiritual body and brings sharper visionary states. Allows one to consider life's events with calmness and serenity. Brings stability and eliminates emotional confusion. Easier access to higher states of consciousness whilst remaining stable.
Originally, the plant was formed by the priesthood in Lemuria. Because of this background, and the fact that Hawaii was an important part of Lemuria, it is best to prepare this essence on these islands. I created this flower essence while living on Maui.
Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus): The signature of this flower is apparent in its association with the jaw. For those who hold tension in the jaw, who have to bite back sharp retorts or who grind their teeth. It balances the energy between the sacral and throat chakras, thereby allowing harmonious verbal expression and freeing creative energy to be directed into positive channels. For those with a strong sexual drive who misdirect this energy into verbal aggression, who can be cuttingly cruel, vindictively critical, sarcastic and very destructive to those around them.
Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis): Lack of equality in relationships; traumatisation due to sexual abuse; imbalance between male and female sexual needs. Also noted for kids diagnosed with ADD and related hyperactive sensitivities. It is especially good for calming people's reactions to bursts of energy that come into their field and cause the "misbehavior" or inattention. It is calming and helps smooth out the emotions, allowing for greater focus rather than being so scattered.
4th Stage for Healing the Soul: Renewal
Elder (Sambucus nigra): Elder stimulates the body’s natural powers of regeneration and renewal. By resonating with the source of our own inner beauty and eternal youthfulness, we connect with true feelings of well-being and the circulation of those vital energies that may rejuvenate us.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis): This essence assists the incarnation process. Sometimes souls are reluctant to return to the physical, perhaps owing to painful experiences here in previous incarnations. This can result in withdrawal, forgetfulness, disorientation, physical and emotional coldness, as well as one not being fully integrated into the physical body. Rosemary flower essence allows one to feel secure and comfortable in the body, bringing warmth, peace and serenity.
Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora): The essence that “ties it all together”. Southern magnolia promotes a sense of perspective that encourages us to bring our physical lives into alignment with our highest vision.
