A
hydrosol is a by-product of the distillation process. It is the water
or steam that is left after the essential oil has been channeled off. Today, what you see in the average retail store is a Floral
Water which is usually distilled water with essential oil added. In a true hydrosol there is no essential oil floating on the
top, and there is no emulsifier like alcohol or polysorbate added. A molecular change occurs during distillation that causes the
essential oil to be absorbed into the water. The water contains all of the healing properties of the
essential oil, but is, of course, not as strong. For that reason you can use hydrosols in ways that you would
never use essential oils. They
are very gentle. They are
safe to use internally. Be
sure they are organically grown. If you havent had the opportunity to try a hydrosol, this is
your chance.
